Every rational person who seeks a spiritual connection with their Creator and eternal bliss in the afterlife knows that seeking fame is a disease of the heart that leads one farther away from their Lord and toward eternal ruin.\\n\\nImam al-Ghazali discusses this in his works. He makes it clear that seeking status and fame (jāh) is a destructive disease that causes a person to compromise their religion to attain something inherently fleeting. A person who seeks fame cannot remain genuine; they must constantly pander to whatever brings public approval and validation. They cannot live authentically according to their true beliefs because they are too busy fabricating a image that people will accept.\\n\\nAs for fame itself, if it comes from Allah without being sought, it is not blameworthy in and of itself. Rather, it is a trial and a responsibility, much like wealth. Like every other blessing, it comes with a test: will the person remain humble and steadfast in gratitude to Allah, using that influence to guide others, or will they become delusional, believing they earned it themselves? This was the very test Imam Aḥmad and others feared so deeply.\\n\\nTherefore, fame that is sought is a curse, while fame that is bestowed by Allah is a trust.
