I keep trying to stop my sin of backbiting, but I can’t. I find myself listening in on gossip, drama videos, or insulting people behind their backs who wronged me online or offline. I keep trying to tell myself no more, but it’s so addicting. I don’t know how to stop. It’s one of the major sins I really struggle with. I backbite against people who pissed me off and hurt me by being condescending towards me or just listen to videos idly while working.\\n\\nHow do I stop? I’m at a loss and feeling hopeless.\\n\"}]}","answer":"{\"ops\":[{\"insert\":\"May Allah reward you for seeking help in overcoming this serious matter. Reaching out is a sign of sincerity. May Allah increase it.\\n\\nLet me first remind you that the fact that you feel shame, that you’re still fighting, and that you’re not okay with the sin is a sign that your heart is still alive. Even if the sin feels addictive at times, the very fact that you feel guilt and pain is a mercy from Allah. Shayṭān wants you to believe that you’re beyond help, which is precisely why Allah ﷻ reminds us: \"},{\"attributes\":{\"bold\":true},\"insert\":\"“Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Unsubscribe from gossip channels or pages that feed this behavior. Set digital limits, such as blocking keywords or using focus apps that reduce temptation. When you feel the urge to backbite, write your thoughts privately in a journal instead of voicing them\\n\\nReplace the reaction. When you’re about to backbite, pause and say: “Aʿūdhu billāh”. If you're upset with someone, try making duʿā’ for them, even if reluctantly\\n\\nDeepen your awareness of the sin. Read up on backbiting from the likes of al-Ghazāli and other scholars who have written on it.\\n\\nDon’t isolate yourself. This battle is heavier when carried alone. Talk to someone you trust. Sometimes just opening up can help loosen the grip of the habit.\\n\\nDon’t lose hope. If you slip, return immediately to Allah. What matters is not that you never slip, but that you never stop repenting.
