Or should I start prayer when he has 2 raka'h left? For example praying maghrib sunnah with someone who prays maghrib. Could I pray 3 raka'h behind hin with intention of sunnah or should I wait till he reaches the last 2 rakah?\\n\"}]}","answer":"{\"ops\":[{\"insert\":\"Praying sunnah behind someone praying fardh, or vice versa, is valid but it is preferable to pray individually in such cases. However, if you choose to follow the imam, you may join from the beginning or at any point during their prayer. If the imam’s prayer is longer than yours, you have two options: you may either remain seated in the tashahhud position until the imam also reaches the final tashahhud and completes the prayer, or you may intend to separate from the imam and finish your prayer independently. \\n\\nFor example, if the imam is praying Maghrib (three rak‘ahs) and the follower is praying a two-rak‘ah sunnah prayer, when they both sit for the first tashahhud after the second rak‘ah, the follower remains seated while the imam stands for the third rak‘ah. The follower then waits until the imam returns to the tashahhud and says salam. However, if the imam is praying four rak‘ahs and the follower is praying three, the situation differs. After the third rak‘ah, the follower would sit for tashahhud while the imam stands for the fourth. In this case, the follower must intend to separate from the imam and complete their prayer individually because the imam did not sit for tashahhud at that point. The key principle is that the follower may wait in the tashahhud position only if the imam has also reached that stage, but the follower cannot introduce a tashahhud that the imam has not performed.\\n\"}]}","tags":[{"_id":"668d9fe60b76658b4c232875","tag":"Salah: Congregational","count":92},{"_id":"668da0170b76658b4c232de6","tag":"Salah: Special & Sunnah","count":69}],"createdOn":"2025-05-06T18:36:09.807Z"}
