Now that I am more practicing, I am finding that many of his habits (ex. skipping prayers and making them up later out of mere inconvenience, such as being out at a movie; eating any meat, irrespective of how it was slaughtered, so long as it isn't pork) are not in line with Islamic principles. Once, I tried to get him to pray with me in public, because we had no shot of getting home before Maghrib ended. He reprimanded me, accusing me of being \\\"\\\"too focused on the prayer\\\"\\\" to care about spending time with him. He routinely boasts that he isn't \\\"\\\"THAT religious\\\"\\\". I have focused on my own practice and shared what I've learned in subtle ways; I have taken him to lectures and encouraged him many times to take a fard 'ayn class. I don't know what else to do to discourage such blatantly incorrect practices without fraying our relarionship. It has taken a lot of effort to even reconnect with him, and his attitude toward religiosity makes me sad. I make dua for both of us and I do not let his words or actions change my beliefs or practices; I'd just like to know if there's anything else I should do.\"}]}","answer":"{\"ops\":[{\"insert\":\"MashaAllah, your efforts to guide your father with respect and gentleness are beautiful. You've demonstrated care by subtly sharing knowledge and encouraging him through positive actions, like attending lectures together. Sometimes, the best approach is to maintain that balance—being an example through your own practice while continuing to make dua. Know that guidance is in Allah's hands, and every soul is ultimately accountable for its own choices. Keep showing compassion, as it can have an immense, lasting impact. May Allah guide and reward you both.\"}]}","tags":[{"_id":"668da0010b76658b4c232b9d","tag":"Relationships: Parent and Child","count":111},{"_id":"668d9fe80b76658b4c2328bd","tag":"Worship: Dawah","count":24}],"createdOn":"2024-12-27T19:59:43.762Z"}
