I was always under the impression that it wasn’t actually important for men or women. Culturally virginity was roped into adultery, as a way to make unfair assumptions and spread fitnah. I’m not saying men and women can sleep around freely. I was taught that refraining from fitnah and following Allah’s commands are important, but not the modern trends around virginity (like how women are “worth more” if they’re virgins, or how non-virgins are “second pick”, how it doesn’t matter for men because boys will be boys, etc.).\\n\\nRelated, I have seen that the stigma around divorced women, women who are victim of rape, and widowed women stemmed from beliefs  about virginity, even though we have examples from the Prophet ﷺ and other important Islamic figures that should be followed instead.\\n\\nOn the opposite side, I have heard that women don’t have to disclose if they’re virgins and can even lie about it when looking to marry. But when we hear about the women in Jannah, they’re described as “virgin women,” so clearly it’s important enough. \\n\\nCan you explain this?
