In fact, when a person has a thought (intention) to do something good, the person is rewarded for the intention, even if the act never materializes. Also, when a person has a thought (intention) to do something bad, the person is not taken to account for it as long as they have not become resolved in carrying out the act. If they did have strong resolve to carry it out, they would be taken to account for their firm resolve to commit sin. If the person abstains from carrying out the sin, they are rewarded. But it he intended evil, but did not commit it, Allah wrote down full one good in his favour.
