If you pray Isha, go to sleep, then wake up before fajr and pray, then you are doing \"tahajjud.\"  In essence, tahajjud refers to praying at a specific time rather than being a distinct prayer. Hence, if you prayed isha, slept, then woke up at 3 am and prayed witr, made up missed prayers, or just prayed a couple of sunnas, then all of that would be considered tahajjud.
