Are there any videos or books to learn about these differing theologies?","answer":"The Asharis, in conjunction with the Maturidis, along with a minority of Hanbalis, represent the mainstream Sunni creed. Regrettably, contemporary critics unjustly target the Asharis and Maturidis, attempting to label them as deviant sects—a notion far removed from the truth. Every traditional Islamic institution, be it renowned universities like al-Azhar or Qarawiyyin, various Dar al-Ulums, or seminaries, teaches the works of the Asharis or Maturidis. This is because, for over a millennium, the majority of Muslim scholars have followed these two schools.\nHere's a quote from imam al-Subki that summarizes exactly who the Asharis are:\n\"They did not innovate a novel opinion or develop a new doctrine, rather they only confirmed the doctrine of the Salaf and defended the way of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Ascription to him (imam al-Ashari) is only due to the fact that he was considered a spokesman for the way of the Salaf and had held firmly to it and established proofs and evidence for it. The one who follows him in that and treads his path in proofs is called an Ashʿari”\nThe same can be said of the Maturidis. It is crucial for us to educate ourselves about our tradition to prevent being misled into forsaking our rich scholarly heritage for narrow doctrines or simplistic ideologies. \nAvoid searching the internet toxic landscape for information on Asharis because the overwhelming majority of search results propagate anti-Sunni dogma. This misleading content is often being spread by often sincere individuals who have been brainwashed to unknowingly disown and attack their own tradition.
