Alhamdulilah, I have been praying consistently since I was a child. I have been doing all of my Fard and most of my Sunnah since puberty. Unfortunately at some point in my late teen years, I fell into the sin of masterbation and struggled with that for quite some time. In the beginning, I didn't know that it necessitated Ghusl as I assumed that Ghusl was only required for those who had had full sexual inter course with their spouse. I learned later on that it did require Ghusl, and after that made sure I would perform Ghusl if I fell into that sin again. But between the period of not knowing and then learning that, I realized there were many Salah that I was performing in a state of Najasa and had no idea. Alhamdulilah I've been learning more about Fiqh and reflecting on some things I've done in ignorance in the past and this is one of those things, and am now in a bit of panic because I'm worried there are Salah I have to make up because of this. I have no clue how many Salah I missed and for what period of time I was in this ignorant state. This happened over a decade ago so I really have no idea how many Salah I performed without the necessary Ghusl. How should I rectify this?","answer":"In religious matters, there is no need to feel embarrassment or hesitation. Ejaculation of semen necessitates a ritual bath (ghusl), whether resulting from sexual intercourse, masturbation, or a nocturnal emission. This postion is unanimously upheld by all four schools of Islamic jurisprudence, and I have not come across any alternative viewpoint. This consensus is supported by the explicit hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. There is no need to panic; instead, continue your journey with sincere repentance and sound knowledge. Regarding the makeup of missed prayers, make an earnest effort to approximate the number of prayers that were neglected. If unsure or mistaken, do not fret; simply provide your best estimate. Once you have a rough idea of the missed prayers, devise a schedule to compensate for them. Although the task may seem daunting, remember that Allah is Most Merciful, and your sincerity will be met with divine assistance.","tags":[{"_id":"668d9fea0b76658b4c2328ed","tag":"Salah: Missed & Make-Up","count":92},{"_id":"668d9fdf0b76658b4c232795","tag":"Tahara: Ghusl","count":40}],"createdOn":"2024-07-09T20:40:54.883Z"}
