If my spouse or I have collected debt prior to getting married or even after getting marries, which of us is liable for paying that amount back? Is there a difference between bet accrued by the husband or by the wife?","answer":"In our deen, every sane, adult person, male or female, is free to engage in financial contracts and is solely responsible for fulfilling those contracts. This does not change when a person gets married. Also, the finances of each spouse remain independent after getting married. This is well known in our deen. So, if someone incurs debt then gets married, their spouse has nothing to do with that debt. Also, if one of them incurs a debt after marriage, their spouse also has no responsibility, unless they also signed the contract. I used the word spouse because there is no difference between the husband and the wife.","tags":[{"_id":"668d9ffb0b76658b4c232ade","tag":"Marriage: Roles and Responsibilities","count":56},{"_id":"668da0150b76658b4c232daf","tag":"Relationships: Spouse","count":42},{"_id":"668da0130b76658b4c232d6d","tag":"Contemporary Life: Debt","count":16}],"createdOn":"2024-07-09T20:40:34.869Z"}
